If you get in touch with either whoever delivers your meds or the company that distributes them in the UK they will often send you a free coolbag for them

When I travelled to South Africa last year, I had to take two doses of Humira with me. I asked for advice from Helathcare at Home who suggested using a regular small cooler bag (six-pack size) with a couple of those blue freezer ice blocks. They offered to provide me with a special bag for the purpose but would charge me. I can't recall what the cost would be but thought at the time that it was really expensive.

I opted for my own small cooler bag, wrapped the Humira in bubble wrap and wedged the ice blocks along the sides and on top. It worked a treat and lasted all of the 18 odd hours total travelling time.

Cooler bags and ice packs work well and I have used them for the past six years. However be aware not all airlines will allow you to carry the needles in the cabin, they must go in the hold. So, if your injections are pre-mixed you must make certain with the airline that they will definitely allow you to take them on board the aircraft.

We flew to Faro, Portugal, two years ago with Jet2.com. I had a letter from Healthcare at Home and other paperwork. I asked before going and was informed by their Head Office that it would be okay. Going through X-Ray at the airport I was stopped! They would not allow me to carry the Enbrel. Consequently four phials of Enbrel were left to waste at Blackpool airport and I had no injections for two weeks!
